Lycopene is a carotenoid found mainly in tomato-based products. It has been associated with reduced prostate cancer risk in several epidemiologic studies.

Lycopene inhibits androgen receptor expression in prostate cancer cells. There are several in vitro, animal and human studies that found an association of lycopene with anti-prostate cancer effect. The beneficial effects are seen in both preventive and therapeutic use.
The Health Professionals Study showed a reduction in prostate cancer with higher intake of lycopene. The protective benefit is even more marked for the aggressive prostate cancers. Treatment with lycopene also slowed the rise of the serum marker PSA in men known to have prostate cancers in various studies.
Absorption of lycopene in vegetables and mixed-salads is increased when taken with olive oil-based dressing.

Tomato Essence® contains 15 mg of lycopene in each capsule. This is sufficient goodness to give wholesome benefit without any side effects.
Safety
