Curcumin is a diarylheptanoid found in the spice turmeric associated with lower colon cancer rates among South Asians.

Colorectal cancer rates are the lowest among those of Indian ethnicity compared to the others. Colorectal cancer rate (2008 – 2012) in Indians (20.6/100,000/year) is half that of the Chinese (42.7/100,000 /year) in Singapore.
This has been postulated to due to the increased intake of turmeric containing curcumin among the Indians. It in fact inhibits cancer cell growth of any type, possibly the reason why overall cancer rates in the Indians are half of that in Chinese.
Curcumin intake is associated with reduction in weight loss and improvement in general health in patients who have advanced colon cancers.
Correct Dosing
To achieve beneficial levels of curcumin in the serum, the absorption enhancer black pepper (piperine) is used to promote optimal absorption of curcumin into the body system. It is not possible to consume several servings of curry dishes per day to attain the beneficial effects of curcumin.
Turmeric Tonic®contains 500 mg of curcumin and 20 mg of piperine. One capsule per day will truly keep the oncologist away.
Safety
There are no reported serious side effects with above dose of curcumin but it is to best avoided in pregnancy and in those with iron deficiency anemia.
