What is Book Uncle?

Bookuncle.com is an online bookstore selling used books of all genres out of our base in Singapore. We strive to give people in Singapore (and our Asian neighbours) a convenient, cheap and fun way of finding and buying used books, just like how one would do so at a brick-and-mortar used bookstore. Unfortunately, these brick-and-mortar secondhand bookstores are slowly dying out in Singapore, and we thought that an online bookstore would plug that gap in supply for our fellow bookworms here and in the region.

Why 'Book Uncle'?

The original founders, all in their early 30s, grew up browsing and buying books after school (and work) at Far East Plaza, Bras Basah Complex and many other little-known places around the island. One of these stores, helmed by an old uncle (surprise!), mentioned to one of the founders awhile ago that he wanted to retire but didn't feel like giving up his shop and all of his books. We thought then - why not bring Uncle's shop onto the Internet? And that's what we did. And that's why we're called Book Uncle.

Why buy from us?

One big reason for bringing the second hand bookstore online was to avoid paying hefty rental fees or manpower costs, expenses which are more often than not transferred to the buyer. We strive to keep our prices as low as possible and one way we have done that is to absorb all delivery fees within Singapore to keep local delivery free. Oh and also, all our books are dusted and have all tags and surface dirt removed, so what you'll get is a used but still good-looking book which you can proudly display on you bookshelves.
